This 2-hour course meets the mandatory requirements for nurses responsible for recognizing and reporting child abuse in Pennsylvania.  

Purpose statement

Child abuse and neglect remains a significant problem for us all in the United States, as well as Pennsylvania. Approximately 3.9 million children in the U.S. were the subjects of at least one report (HHS,2013 Child Maltreatment Report). In Pennsylvania alone, there were 26,944 reports of suspected child and student abuse in 2013, which is an increase of 280 reports from the previous year (Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Annual Child Abuse Report 2013). This course provides the details of the identification, assessment, and reporting of child abuse and meets the state's continuing education requirements related to the same.

Pain and Symptom Management ~ 1 contact hour 

Audience

Recognition and the management of pain is a core nursing competency. This one hour course meets the Michigan requirements for nurses who are renewing their license to practice nursing in the state.

Purpose statement

This course presents a brief overview of pain including a definition, discussion of acute and chronic pain, and description of pain types. The physiology of pain and its impact on economic and personal statuses follows and, finally, an overview of pain assessment and treatment methods is presented as well as a list of educational resources related to pain and pain management.
