For injured clients seeking relief from their pain and movement dysfunctions, a quality massage therapist should seek short- and long-term solutions. This requires knowing what tissues are at fault and how. While this may seem simple and obvious (for example, pain in the neck is due to some neck muscle dysfunction) precisely pinpointing the causes of pain and dysfunction can be more complex. While it may not always be possible to know exactly what tissues are primarily at fault, there are many tests for soft tissue and joint injuries that therapists can conduct prior to (or even during) the massage treatment. Commonly referred to as “orthopedic tests,” these are assessments that test for skeletomuscular injuries and help sort out whether an injury is functional (muscular) or structural (skeletal) in nature.

It is an amazing gift to bring peace and enjoyment to a person undergoing cancer treatment or in hospice care. As a massage therapist, you have this power; you just need the skills and knowledge taught in this course. For example, you will learn exactly how cancer affects patients, and how massage can benefit them during this time. You will also practice appropriate massage techniques and their applications, and learn the communication skills and professional boundaries required to build a trusted client relationship.
Your instructor brings a lighter heart to a heavy topic with his humor and entertaining teaching style, while drawing from his vast experience – over 30 years of working with hospice patients, and a lifetime of experience dealing with the many effects of cancer. You can expect to think, laugh, share, and grow personally and professionally, all while expanding your skill set to serve a deserving population.
Students should bring a massage table and bolster, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. Bringing your own lunch is optional.

Registration will begin at 7:45 am. Class will be from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm with breaks for lunch and dinner and breaks throughout the day.

Muscle Testing & Treatment for Cervical and Spinal Weakness

J.Nicholas Tortoriello

Sat Mar 30
9:00 am
$227.00
12 Hrs
Chronic pain is a pain in the neck (pun intended), causing frustration for both the client and the massage therapist trying to resolve it. Massage and stretching, while beneficial, typically offer temporary relief. Muscle testing, on the other hand, can provide instant, lasting results.
In this class, you will learn how to identify and treat muscle weakness in the neck and back to improve strength, range of motion and daily function. This technique addresses the source of the pain by finding the muscle that's not doing its job and correcting it.
Your instructor will open your eyes to the science behind the muscular system. He'll not only teach you a real, effective, long-term solution to muscle pain, he'll also explain how to market it to bring in more clients.
Students only need to bring a table.

Registration will begin at 7:45 am. Class will be from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm with breaks for lunch and dinner and breaks throughout the day.

The demand for Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is rapidly growing. In fact, it's the third most requested modality in the U.S., according to Massage Magazine, with widespread practice in professional sports and plastic surgery to speed recovery time, as well as anti-aging and weight-loss. Now is the time to add it to your tool belt.
In this course, your experienced instructor will show you how to perform this gentle technique, which alleviates excess fluid and boosts the natural drainage of the lymph from body tissues. She will take you on the lymph tour, providing an overview of the lymph system, and a behind-the-scenes look at how a clinic of lymphology operates, including physician referrals and billing paperwork.
You will walk away with the ability to distinguish fat from fluid, and a full-body 50-minute MLD routine that you can add to your service menu tomorrow. You will gain the knowledge to help your clients with the proper compression garments and exercises to keep their lymph systems healthy, and keep them coming back to you.
Students should bring a massage table, hand sanitizer, sheets and linens, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.

Registration will begin at 7:45 am. Class will be from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm with breaks for lunch and dinner and breaks throughout the day.

Nearly 40 million Americans endure at least 1 migraine or similar headache episode per year, with a staggering 9 million suffering 15 or more headaches per month.  Conventional medical approaches and pain medicines carry high costs, risk of side effects, and are only partially effective.
Fortunately there are safe, effective techniques available to massage therapists which have met with outstanding success.  These inexpensive, noninvasive techniques can be applied almost anywhere, require no special equipment, and allow for wonderful relief and healing for our clients.  The hands on approach to relieving headaches often brings immediate, lasting relief, to the client.  The specific skills required are well within the reach of Licensed Massage Professionals and can be mastered in a short time.
This workshop also identifies some of the major causes of back pain, which affects over 80% of American adults at some time.  Attendees will enhance their understanding of crucial structures related to the spine.  They will gain a deeper knowledge of some of the major pathologies which impede spinal health and the leading causes of these imbalances.  The class arms the massage therapists with a comprehensive approach to assisting clients which will include powerful hands- on techniques as well as key stretching and strengthening exercises.

Registration will begin at 7:45 am. Class will be from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm with breaks for lunch and dinner and breaks throughout the day.

The practices of yoga, meditation and tai chi are powerful tools of leverage and self-care for any massage therapist. By engaging in these practices, you can gain a greater understanding of proper body mechanics and how to preserve your own health and wellness, which can enhance your effectiveness as a therapist.
The practice of yoga is growing all over the world. In the U.S. alone, the number of people practicing yoga has nearly doubled in the last four years*. In this course, you will discover yoga's profound history, and learn yoga postures that increase flexibility and stamina, which are crucial for maintaining proper body mechanics.
Meditation is absolutely essential for maintaining psychological health and well-being. It calms the mind, enhances learning capabilities, magnifies concentration powers and improves overall biological efficiency, allowing therapists to comfortably and effectively handle high volumes of massage work.
With his extensive background in martial arts, your instructor will also teach the principles of tai chi, and how to use balance, position and leverage to avoid repetitive motion injury and allow comfortable delivery of substantial pressure to clients.
Students will walk away with empowering techniques to improve their overall stamina, and knowledge to help them better serve - and attract - the growing number of yoga practitioners and holistic health-minded individuals.
Students should wear comfortable athletic clothes, and bring a yoga mat and water.

Registration will begin at 7:45 am. Class will be from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm with breaks for lunch and dinner and breaks throughout the day.

An increasingly popular modality, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an ultra-light touch therapy that is both deeply relaxing and beneficial to the body, reducing waste buildup in the lymph and promoting a healthy immune system. For therapists, it offers the bonus of being gentle on the hands while producing real, often visible, results, particularly in clients who are prone to swelling, recovering from surgery, or undergoing cancer treatment.
This course will teach you the MLD technique developed by Drs. Emil Vodder and Bruno Chikly.
You will explore the lymphatic system's anatomy and physiology, and learn how and where to apply the correct pressure and rhythm to stimulate its movement. After class, you'll have the skills to immediately put this technique into practice in your spa or clinic. Plus, you'll learn quick at-home exercises that you can use for self-care, and teach your clients how to keep their lymph systems healthy between continued sessions with you.
Students should bring a massage table, bolster, top and bottom sheets, massage oil, and a pen and paper for taking notes.

In this class, you will learn how to identify and treat muscle weakness in the hip, knee and ankle to improve strength and range of motion.
