The target audience for this educational course is nurses caring for the general community populations—specifically, nurses who have direct communication with patients with a history of mental health disorders.


Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss factors that impact therapeutic communication.
  2. Differentiate between therapeutic and non-therapeutic techniques for interviewing and communicating with patients.
  3. Discuss specific techniques to improve communication with those patients who have common mental health diagnoses.
  4. Describe patient safety issues related to communicating with patients who have mental health disorders.
