About the Course

The field of women’s sexual health has significantly improved. With the availability of more information, women are becoming empowered to make better decisions about their sexual health.  Nurses who provide care for women with sexual health concerns play a vital role in this educational and decision-making process.  This course will enhance current knowledge of women’s reproductive health when caring for women with contemporary health issues.  The course includes essential information for addressing concerns about a woman's menstrual cycle throughout her lifespan, female sexual health, and premenstrual disorders.

Learning Outcomes: 
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
  • Describe counseling methods for women with concerns about their menstrual cycles.
  • Identify methods to assess a woman’s sexual health.
  • Describe strategies for the recognition and management of premenstrual disorders in women.

About the Authors: 

Mary Fischer, PhD, MSN, WHNP-BC, is a certified women’s health nurse practitioner and has provided care for women for more than 20 years. She holds certifications as a childbirth educator, lactation consultant, and menopause practitioner.  She is currently on the faculty in the graduate program at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts - Boston and is Co-Director of the Post-Master’s Certificate Program.

Rosemary Theroux, RNC, PhD, WHNP-BC, is a certified women’s health nurse practitioner and has practiced in a variety of clinical settings for more than 25 years. She is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts - Worcester. She has conducted and published research in the area of women’s self-care decision making, and women’s health practices in Africa. Dr. Theroux has a special interest in global women’s health and along with other members of a non-profit group, she has developed a primary care setting with women’s health services in Ghana, Africa.
