Audience
This course is intended to share information with all nurses so they may better understand the concept of domestic violence and know how to care for their patients who are at risk or have been a target of domestic violence. 

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss the prevalence of domestic violence and how it has been viewed in the media recently.
  2. Assess how survivors of domestic violence view their health and the impact it has on the health care system.
  3. Explain PTSD as a sequela of domestic violence.
  4. Analyze the effects of domestic violence on specific populations.
  5. Identify laws that impact domestic violence.


About the Author
Marquetta Flaugher, PhD, APRN-BC
Marquetta Flaugher, PhD, APRN-BC, is an advanced registered nurse practitioner who currently works at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System in Bay Pines, Florida. She is an ANCC-certified family nurse practitioner and psychiatric mental health nurse. She has given numerous presentations on domestic violence via publications and national presentations. She is cochair of the Advanced Practice Council at the facility where she works and is a member of several professional nurse practitioner organizations. She also currently teaches master’s level leadership courses at Southern New Hampshire University online and teaches nurse practitioner courses at Chamberlain University online.
