Florida Laws and Rules: Occupational Therapy (2 hrs)
This course will satisfy the two hours required for laws and rules. Section I will detail the Occupational Therapy Practice Act, or Chapter 468, Part III. Section II will provide an overview of Chapter 456. Finally, Section III will review Chapter 65B11 of the Florida Administrative Code.
Preventing Medical Errors: Patient Safety in Occupational Therapy (2 hrs)
The purpose of this course is to identify common medical errors and causation in occupational therapy practice and identify best practices for the analysis, reduction, and prevention of such errors. Also to explain the Florida Statutes and AOTA Ethics Code and Minimum Standards to prevent medical errors in occupational therapy.
Adaptive Equipment (AE) and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) (2 hrs)
Adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment both have their places in the rehabilitative process. Both categories of equipment provide compensatory routes for patients who want to function as well and as independently as possible during their day-to-day lives. The following course material will assist physical therapists (PTs) and occupational therapists (OTs) in addressing the numerous barriers to effectively incorporate adaptive equipment (AE) and durable medical equipment (DME) into their patients’ interventions—and eventually into their lives after discharge from services.
Neuro-Developmental Treatment and Neorological Disorders: Research and Resources for OT and PT (2 hrs)
NDT is widely used in the therapy realm for numerous neurological conditions and has revolutionized hands-on clinical work. Physical and occupational therapists working in various settings and capacities worldwide have incorporated NDT principles and practices into their patients’ treatment sessions. The following course includes the latest resources and research available for physical and occupational therapists regarding NDT.
Patients with History of Substance Use: OT and PTs Roles and Considerations for Treatment (2 hrs)
The following course provides in-depth information regarding patients with a history of substance use and why they definitely fit within our scope of practice. Aside from adding more to your therapy knowledge base, this course will reduce your hesitations and questions about why these patients are appropriate for OT and PT services.
Human Trafficking in Florida (2 hrs)

Course overview: Health care personnel are on the front lines of the fight against human trafficking. All health care personnel must be alert to the often overlooked signs of trafficking in their patients. This course is designed to provide a sensitive review of the issue of abuse in human trafficking and how it affects patients and their families. It also meets the requirements of the Florida State Board for continuing education regarding human trafficking.
