About the Course: 
This course will discuss typical vs. atypical feeding behaviors, common recommendations, and strategies to overcome recommendations that may inhibit proper oral motor development. We will discuss case studies to put in perspective the use of “standard” vs. individualized recommendations. Further, the course will transition from bottle to table food progressions and discuss signs of readiness. Action plans will be provided for all common feeding concerns. By the end of the course, there will be a greater understanding of the roles of speech pathologists and gastroenterologists. In addition, there is a discussion on how to translate what is learned to caregivers.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course the participant will be able to:
1. Identify differences in typical vs. atypical feeding.
2. Recognize signs of potential oral motor deficits during early feeding.
3. Recognize appropriate referrals based on assessments.
4. Identify common recommendations and the potential later implications of those recommendations.
5. Recognize the benefits of utilizing preventative measures prior to conventional methods.
6. Identify activities to prevent further decline when conventional methods are decided upon.
7. Identify differences in liquid consistencies and when/ how to use them appropriately.
8. Identify how to work with parents to overcome common fears with infant feeding
9. Identify characteristics to determine “readiness” of food progressions.
10. Identify the relationship between late introduction with solids and later feeding difficulties. 

About the Instructor: 
Nancy Keeney Smith, LMT Nancy Keeney Smith is a Board-Certified Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Lymph Drainage Therapist,author and contributor to several books on scar tissue, and a Florida and NCBTMB Provider of Scar Management Workshops. Nancy’s Scar Management Workshops have been taught internationally, including the 5th International Fascia Congress in Berlin, Germany in 2018. Nancy is a co-author of TRAUMATIC SCAR TISSUE MANAGEMENT, contributing author to the book INTEGRATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT, has published research on pediatric burn scars therapeutic massage, is former 1st VP of the AMTA Florida Chapter, the National Lymphedema Association, and the Florida State Massage Therapy Association. Mallory L. Millet, MS, CCC-SLP Mallory L. Millet is a certified Speech Pathologist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She graduated with her master's degree from Southeastern La University in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She began her career with the geriatric population, and her love for dysphagia rehabilitation began. Mallory currently works at an outpatient pediatric clinic. When she transitioned to the pediatric population, she spent her energy in developing a feeding program focusing on developing relationships with other specialists and giving infants the best quality of life. She is currently pursuing her Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.
