Five Ways to Stay Current in the Industry

The salon industry tends to be more competitive than others—which is why it’s extremely important for you to continue to grow professionally and personally. Staying up-to-date makes you a better provider for your clients. Check out these five resources to help you grow.

Blogs are a great way to get other viewpoints on topics in the field. Blogs can be written in a fun and organic way to deliver information. There are hundreds of different blogs focused on the salon industry—hair, nails, massage, esthetics—you name it! Bookmark a few of your favorites and check them, at the very least, monthly.

Webinars are informational live online seminars. If you subscribe to certain magazines or are connected to certain product lines, they usually offer webinars on a monthly. Webinars are fun to get introduced to new products and services without being physically present at a conference.

Books, Magazines, Publications

Become an expert in your field! If you’re interested in a specific service over another— read up on it and learn everything there is to know about it! If you’re a nail technician, subscribe to magazines and YouTube videos to stay current with the latest trends. Continue to purchase new books and papers on your favorite interests.

Conferences/Trade Shows

Find a conference you’re interested in and bring a friend! There are salon trade shows and industry conferences held throughout the year in a variety of cities. Trade shows can be a great place to network and get to know more people in your industry—not to mention they’re usually in beautiful destinations.

Facebook Groups

There are thousands of local and national Facebook groups for salon professionals. These groups can be a fun and quick way to get an answer to a question or to just chime in on industry news. You may be surprised with the local connections you can make.

It’s important not to get stuck in your day-to-day job, but step outside of it and become the best provider possible. Your clients depend on you to keep up with the industry and continue to better yourself and your services. How do you prefer to keep you up with industry trends? Tell us in the comments below!
