Promised ‘interim’ guidance for dentists looking to return to the office

The American Dental Association has released interim guidance in the form of a toolkit for dentists looking to make a return to the workplace.

Available via the group’s website, the toolkit offers hints for returning to work for purposes that go beyond the emergency appointment for which many dentists have remained available through the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As some states move to reopen, the ADA’s Advisory Task Force for Dental Practice Recovery has developed this free toolkit with interim guidance which recommends measures to take to help protect patients, staff and dentists from COVID-19 as dental practices re-engage in providing the full range of oral health care,” the website reads.

The toolkit includes:

  • Sample letter to patients
  • Guidance on pre-appointment screening
  • In-office patient registration procedures
  • Reception area preparation strategies
  • Chairside checklist
  • Staff protection strategies
  • Supplies shopping list

With knowledge changing and developing as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, the toolkit will be continually updated. By filling out the form on the website, users will receive an email from the ADA with a link to the toolkit.
