The Candidate Handbook for the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) privacy and security credentials, in conjunction with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), is now available for downloading at: www.ahima.org/certification. The handbook includes valuable content and eligibility information for the Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP), Certified in Healthcare Security (CHS) and Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security credentials (CHPS). Applicants may register either by U.S. mail or electronically via the Web site at https://www3.ahima.org/certification/registration. Eligible candidates may sit for the CHP beginning Oct. 15, 2002, and the CHS and CHPS beginning March 2003.
National HI&T Week Planning Kit Available Now

AHIMA Posts Analysis of FY 2003 DRG Revisions for Hospital Inpatient PPS
An analysis of the final rule regarding FY 2003 revisions to the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment system (PPS) has been posted on the AHIMA Web site. This analysis was prepared by AHIMA’s Policy and Government Relations team and covers changes to DRG classifications, add-on payments for new services and technologies, and CMS’ response to AHIMA’s comments. The final rule was published in the Aug. 1, 2002, issue of the Federal Register and takes effect on Oct. 1, 2002. Both the analysis and AHIMA’s comments to CMS in response to the proposed rule can be accessed at: www.ahima.org/dc.
Credentialed Volunteers Wanted for Exam Construction Committees
AHIMA’s Council on Certification is looking for credentialed volunteers to serve on the following exam construction committees:
•RHIA Exam Construction Committee: RHIA Practitioners and HIA Educators from the HIM community are encouraged to apply.
•RHIT Exam Construction Committee: RHIT Practitioners and HIA Educators from the HIM community are encouraged to apply.
•CCS Exam Construction Committee: CCS practitioners and educators, as well as members of Communities of Practice (CoPs) relevant to coding and coding representatives of the American Medical Association (AMA) are encouraged to apply.
•CCS-P Exam Construction Committee: CCS-P practitioners and educators as well as members of CoPs relevant to coding and coding representatives of AMA are encouraged to apply.
