Awards support research to created advances in future treatment

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation) recently awarded $640,000 in research grants, scholarships, and clinical achievement awards to 82 individuals. The awards support communication sciences and disorders research that can potentially lead to advances in treatment, nurture the next generation of students in the discipline, and lead to innovation in science and practice.

The exceptionally innovative and talented recipients were recognized and awarded at the annual ASHFoundation Founders Breakfast at the 2018 Convention of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). More than 400 donors, corporate sponsors, and past awardees attended to honor these worthy recipients.

“We are proud of these newly awarded scholars who are bringing forward discoveries to change the lives of children and adults striving to communicate effectively,” said ASHFoundation President Allan O. Diefendorf. “Among this year’s awardees are the first recipients of a new Researcher-Practitioner Collaboration Grant program designed to accelerate research that will increase knowledge to improve services for people with communication disorders. Their studies show great promise for bold solutions for the future.”

Throughout the ASHFoundation’s history, more than 2,200 students, researchers, and clinical professionals have received more than $9.8 million in ASHFoundation funding. To learn about the 2018 honored individuals and past award recipients, visit http://www.ashfoundation.org.
