Education Workshop: Interventions for Children Born Preterm: A Lab Course

This handling course is based on assessment skills learned in the previous course, Beyond Checklists. Attendance at Beyond Checklists is a prerequisite for attending this course. Participants will learn interventions targeting the specific needs of infants born preterm. Intervention areas covered will include sensory/motor skills, respiration, and a short introductory approach to feeding. Participants will practice interventions on dolls and on each other. Participants will learn to break down skills for parent training and incorporation into the infant’s daily care activities. Discussions of positioning and positioning equipment will be included throughout the course. Material will be presented using short lectures, videos, group work, and participant labs. CEUs: 6.0 NJBPTE CEUS, 7.2 NYPTA CEUs. Course provides 6 PDUs for NYS DOH Early Intervention Providers.
