Face(book) the Music: Nurse Fired for Social Media Post

Texas nurse posted about boy suspected of having measles

Officials at Texas Children’s Hospital claim they’ve fired a nurse after her social media post about a patient suspected of having measles.

The nurse, who worked at the Houston-area hospital, posted her comments on an anti-vaccination group’s page. Screenshots of the now-deleted post show the nurse’s concern that the sickness was worse than she’d imagined, but that it still doesn’t alter her personal stance against vaccinations.

After learning about the posts, the nurse was terminated for posting private medical information.

As for the patient, the Houston Health Department is investigating the “suspected” case of measles and waiting for verification from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Houston’s last confirmed measles case was in 2013.

Officials remain adamant that vaccination is the best way to prevent diseases like measles.
